Isabelle, 6 years old
Isabelle is an amazing 6 year old little girl from Shoreline, WA. She loves dogs, shoes, and music (which is lucky for her because her Dad runs the radio station KXSU at Seattle University). Isabelle also has Down syndrome and her parents think it’s been wonderful to have one place, Seattle Children’s, to go for ear tubes, vision, speech assessments and anything Isabelle may need. The neurodevelopmental specialist at Seattle Children’s make sure she’s getting everything she needs based on the latest research. The various services are all able to coordinate their care and have access to her full medical record, simplifying the process of caring for a child with complex medical needs. And because they understand children and have the right-sized equipment and lots of experience; they’re great at making every visit comfortable for her -- at Children’s she’s always treated gently and compassionately. The space is inviting and child-friendly so for a kiddo with complex needs who has frequent clinic visits, the experience is positive instead of something to dread.
Also, I could go into how they saved her life when they realized she swallowed a battery a few years ago on her birthday, but that’s another story… |
Seattle University's Dance Marathon has the special privilege of working with Miracle Kids from Seattle Children's Hospital, who have benefited from the Uncompensated Care Fund that our philanthropy supports. Our Miracle Kids and their families attend SUDM events throughout the year, including The Dance Marathon.
