Seattle University Dance Marathon receives national award for best website
July 2014-
Seattle University Dance Marathon (SUDM) student leaders Emily Downing and Alex Stoffel accepted an award recognizing their organization’s website at the national Dance Marathon conference in Chicago. SUDM was nominated for both a website award, and an innovation award. SUDM’s new website, brought to life in 2013, reflects the students’ hopes to demonstrate that they are more than an organization, but also a vibrant community. “We want people who visit our site to feel connected to our community,” reads their entry for nomination, “and we want to demonstrate how SUDM participants are connected to each other, to our university, to Seattle Children's Hospital, and to our greater Seattle community and beyond.”
The new website informs visitors of multiple opportunities to get involved and offers news articles, social media links, and information packets. Fundraising participants can also download flyers, email invitations, and Facebook cover photos, or access FAQs and tips about The Dance Marathon, which is the organization’s largest event, an annual 16-hour celebration of their efforts.
The 14th annual Dance Marathon Leadership Conference (DMLC) was held in Chicago, IL. Hundreds of student leaders came from across the country to “learn helpful best practices, develop valuable leadership skills, hear from professionals in the nonprofit and fundraising field, and network,” according to their website. Dance Marathon is a nationwide youth-led nonprofit that supports Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. With the help of universities across the United States and Canada, more than 170 hospitals receive millions in fundraising assistance every year.
Last year SUDM raised nearly $60,000 for Seattle Children’s Hospital’s Uncompensated Care Fund, which provides funding for children and families who otherwise would not be able to afford medical care.
